Home-style
Dumplings
Many
cultures have their own style of dumpling, there is the Jewish kreplach, the
Italian ravioli, the Polish pierogi, the Korean mandoo and the Japanese
gyoza…just to name a few. These bite-sized delicacies are perfectly
proportioned mixes of meat, vegetables and dough – boiled, fried or steamed.
The classic northern style dumplings, the No. 1 holiday dish in China, has a
history dates back 1400 years ago. This popular dish was later introduced in
Korea and Japan virtually unchanged. The names mandoo and gyoza are both
phonic translations from the Chinese language. Northern style dumplings
differ from their Western cousins both in their filings and their dough. The
filing is prepared using a technique where the protein-rich ingredients are
beaten with herbal juices. This helps to infuse the filing with moisture and
fragrance, and provides a pleasant texture….
Come and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon and learn the secrets of making
authentic dumplings. Please bring your own apron and a container to
take left over home.

Thank you so much for
such a great afternoon yesterday. We made them last night for dinner
and they were wonderful. Bruce and Rowan helped make the dumplings and
they couldn't believe how good they tasted. They are a hit! L. Thompson
