Christmas Shopping in Beijing

December 23 to 29, 2008

Detailed Itinerary

Day One  New York/Beijing
Depart New York for Beijing. Cross the International Date Line.

Day Two  Beijing

Arrive in Beijing. Our guide will pick up at the airport. Hotel check-in followed by a walking tour of the center of Beijing. (Wangfujing Shopping  District.)

Day Three  Beijing
Tour of Beijing today includes the imposing Forbidden City, the secluded and  guarded home to the Emperors of China. In front of the Forbidden City is Tiananmen Square, at 98 acres, the largest public square in the world. A  visit to the 15th century Temple of Heaven shows you where the Emperors made offerings for the harvest. Later we will shop at the Hong Qiao market for your best deals. Tonight enjoy a special Dai Ethnic Dinner party. (B,L,D)

Day Four Beijing
Morning hiking on the Great Wall, one of the world's most fascinating  architectural endeavors. On our return to Beijing, will visit the "Spirit  Way" with its magnificent stone statues of animals and soldiers guarding the Ming Tombs that are located in this picturesque valley. We will stop at a  jade factory to see local craftspeople at work. A specially arranged foot massage will certainly help you relax. You will love this experience! (B,L)

Day Five Beijing
This morning, visit the Summer Palace, the largest park in Beijing, with a  huge lake dug by hand in 1888. It was a favorite haunt of the Dowager Empress Cixi. A boat made entirely of marble is evidence of how she squandered China's treasury at the end of the 19th Century. Stop at a cloisonné factory, a unique place to buy bracelets, jewelry, vases and Christmas ornaments. After lunch, enjoy a traditional tea ceremony. Evening is reserved for the famous acrobatic show. (B.D.L)

Day Six Beijing
Shop the Silk Market today followed by a "back alleys" Hutong tour to see Chinese life at its most traditional and obtain a fascinating  behind-the-scenes glimpse into the lifestyles of the local people. Stop by Liulichang, a street renowned for its traditional fine arts. Evening is free tonight. (B,L)

Day Seven     Beijing

This is your last day in China. This morning is reserved for you to practice Tai Chi with local people before you transfer to the airport and flight home. Return to the U.S. the same day.
