Packing for Tibet
trip
- Take a day pack, a
bottle for water, hat
with a brim.
- Wearing several layers
of clothing that can be easily added or removed is the wise choice since
temperatures may vary greatly within a single day.
- A windbreaker, jacket or long sleeve shirt. Something warm for night wear.
- Women should avoid
skirts or dresses.
- Comfortable, sturdy
sneakers or hiking boots are also recommended.
- A jar of Vaseline. Your
skin gets very dry and the cosmetic stuff isn’t heavy enough.
- Any
medicines you regularly take. Anything you would use for blisters. Detergent
which is safe for the environment. Headache medicine, Tylenol or aspirin. Expect
to have a headache about 4 to 6 hours after landing in Lhasa.
- Saline nasal spray & eye
drops are useful because of the dryness of the air at that altitude.
- Prescription for Diamox
(250 mg should do), just in case you have an uncomfortable night of altitude
sickness.
- Other necessary items
you should bring include tissues, plastic bags, extra batteries, vitamin
supplement, camera and plenty of films. Sunscreen lotion, sunglasses and lip
balm are essential to protect you from sunburn. Pre-soaped wash clothes in
packets.
- A diary.
- Last thing: DRINK
PLENTY OF WATER!!!! Staying hydrated will help your body deal with the
altitude.
