Madam Zhang, who worked at the Special Needs
department of CCAA from 2003 to 2007, is no
longer working in this department. She is one
of the most caring, thorough and fair persons I
have ever known at CCAA. She has an amazing
memory and remembers ALL the names of the many
children she has matched, their orphanages, and
their special needs.
She cares
about the children she placed, but even more so
for those children that still remain in the
institutions. I can recall one visit I had with
her at CCAA when she shared with me her sadness
about an older child who was matched to a family
that in the end refused to finalize the
adoption. The child was about one month from
reaching the maximum age to be adopted. Madam
Zhang was miserable thinking that this child
would remain in the orphanage and ultimately
never be adopted.
In another conversation
with her I was able I to share with her that I
had met a little girl from a local orphanage
that was so talented and beautiful. She had won
many awards for Jazz dance in her province. The
orphanage director personally drove her every
Saturday to take dance lessons as well as paid
the tuition and registration fee for
competitions. While I was talking, Madam Zhang
took notes. She said she did not know about
this child. She wanted to include this child in
the next group of referrals. She wanted to find
a family that would make sure to recognize her
talent and continue her dance training. It was
later that Madam Zhang called me so excited and
pleased that this girl was adopted by family who
also enjoy music and dance and had promised
to continue her training...
Madame
Zhang is not just a person who handles the
paperwork. She put her hearts into work She
has even called me to make sure I knew that one
particular girl she referred might have a hard
time adjusting to her new home due to her older
age and the fact that she was from a remote
orphanage. Madam Zhang worried that the
transition and adjustment for this girl might be
difficult and she wanted me to prepare the
adoptive family. This older girl now lives
happily with her mother and her big sister in
the United States.
I feel very
fortunate to have worked with Madame Zhang. I
respect her moral character and her
professionalism. Children's lives have forever
been changed and will continue to be impacted by
this wonderful woman and her work with CCAA.
Now,
in order to honor her work, I am hoping to send
her a gift, a photo album of children she once
helped to find their families. If you adopted
